Printing and Framing

Printing

Unfortunately no image on a web page can do justice to the impact a properly framed and lit Island Imaging Limited Edition print can make in your home or office.

We start by making sure we have the perfect raw material - the photograph. My primary cameras are the large format (4*5" sheet film) Ebony 45S, and the Hasselblad 501CM 6*6 cm medium format cameras. Both of these are completely manual cameras with no automation. I use a seperate Sekonic hand held light meter, a heavy Manfrotto tripod, and a selection of photographic filters from Lee Filters, in the UK. I shoot onto ultra-fine grain Fuji Velvia colour slide film, or Fuji Acros black and white reversal film.

After choosing the best of a series of  images (often we will have to re-visit a location several times to find the ideal light and composition), the slide is sent off for drum-scanning and an intial Ilfochrome print to Created For Life, a specialist professional lab based in Sydney. Only after we are satisified with this original will re-prints then be ordered, from Pixel Perfect, again based in Sydney.

All printing throughout is done on the Lambda printer, which prints by exposing a photographic paper to laser light, and gives the ultimate in clarity, detail, colour saturation and print longevity. When framed properly, the prints wil not fade for at least 100 years.
